Taranaki Tarmac Rally

Our first tarmac event for the rally, and the first reall event on tarmac in the Redhills Rallyesport Legacy.

Leaving Auckland on Friday our goal was to place in the top 30. A realistic goal, but one I thought would be a bit of a stretch. We dicided that a class was not really on, and to go for the overall. Our best place was 56th o/a in the leone in 2003.

Saturday dawned with showers and heavy winds... neat, wet roads.

The first stage was a bit of a doodle, I was just getting used to the car and didn't push too hard. Arriving at stage two I felt comfortable and gave it a good nudge only to warp our front rotors which led to a moving brake pedal for the rest of the day.

Stages 3 flew by with a knarly 5R/Cr at the start catching a lot of people out. Stage 4 we flew through and came on in 27th place o/a and 4th in class at the second service. Awesome!!! Now we just needed to keep that up and we could get a top 20 placing.

Stages 5-7 went well with no dramas but some of our competitors had some huge accidents.

Stage 8 was stage 4 in reverse, back accross the mountain road was awesome and led us to our best EVER finish of 23rd overall and 4th in class.

Our next event is the Gregg Todd Rally on the 13th August.
