Racetech
Rally of Wairarapa
Second event
for 2005, we headed to Masterton, a long 9hr drive, for the Racetech Rally
of Wairarapa.
Broken into
two days, each featured 6 stages and approx. 240km overall.
The weather
on Day one was not the best. Heavy rain, strong wind, and wet rain soaked
roads. Starting at 62 on the road, we took fairly easy day one, happy
to just see what happemns in our class and overall.
Once again
we didn't have the right tyres, but we had made some suspension set up
changes and the car was becoming easier to drive. Our only real moment
of the day was a half spin when the front left wheel got caught in deep
mud on the inside of a 5L, resulting in a bit of a sideways moment.
Day one finished
with us in 47th o/a and 4th in class.
The second
day dawned and was an improvement over the first day.
A long tour
out to the first service park, then it was the business end of the rally,
6 stages and a fast sprint to the finish.
We had two
long stages to manage both over 40km in length, and coming out of the
first stage we found ourselves 3rd in class. Both the stages were very
tough, with very slippery and strange off camber corners and claimed a
lot of cars, some two deep in places.
Our day carried
on successfully with no dramas to finish the rally in 27th o/a and 2nd
in class, our best yet placing.
Thanks to
the Turner Motorsport team for looking after us over the weekend.
Now it is
off to Taranaki on the 9th July.
Thx
