2002
- Round Three Well it has been a while since our last email newsletter, and a lot has been happening. After Taranaki we took the car home and found it had done one main bearing, and had one cracked piston...bugger. It was decided then and there not to use the same block, and we sourced a second hand engine, stripped it, and got all the internals crack tested and balanced. On the shopping list were some forged pistons (thanks to Denco Engineering in Christchurch) and a new clutch (thanks to Performance Clutches). The engine was put back together an ran for the first time on the 19th June. We spent the 30th June at the Woolf Mufflers Rallysprint as a run-in test day and all went ok..although the driver was a little rusty for the first couple of runs. So now the next round of the Top Half Series is this weekend. We have documentation and scrutineering on Saturday 13th July, with a two pass recce in the afternoon (where we drive at normal road speeds over the roads to check and re-check our pacenotes - not in the rally car but in the Jeep). Sunday the event proper takes place. First car away will be about 8:30am at the Mercer Country Stop. We will be starting at 9:35am. The cars head off to Maramarua Forest for the first 6 stages, before service and then in the afternoon a repeat of the stages. If you want to know where to spectate, then click here to see a map of the stages and good spectator spots (map courtesy of the Auckland Car Club website). Stage
Descriptions Part
Two I will be in touch after the event, with a blow by blow description of our day in the forest. Thx
